The Green Chair had the privilege of assisting a hardworking young lady this past week. After her 18th birthday, she became homeless when she was no longer able to live with her family. With no place to go and no way to get on her feet, she found a helping hand through the Haven House’s Preparation for Independent Living Program. The program offers basic needs, employment and rental assistance services to young adults who are homeless or street dependent.

The program helped equip this young woman with stable employment and housing to start anew. She now supports herself by working two jobs.

The Haven House brought her to The Green Chair on her 19th birthday to find living
room furniture for her apartment. She immediately fell in love with a bright red papasan chair. Her favorite color is red and she has always wanted a red kitchen. Volunteers found red and white checked placements to match her dishware. With help from The Green Chair, she now has a relaxed environment to come home to after a hard day at work.

“I was overwhelmed with The Green Chair’s generosity,” she said and offered that she wanted to return as a volunteer. She has told others at the Haven House about her experience with The Green Chair and recommended they come to see us in the future.
